Years ago there was an article in a magazine for guitar players about interesting trivia like " Using the formula of A=1, B=2 etc: you will find the sum of 'HAND'=27". the fact that the adult human hand has twenty seven bones made this a fascinating coincidence. Not really mind boggling stuff, but then trhere was also reference to Elvis' birth date - 8 Jan 1935 - which added up to 27 as well. For some reason Andra and 27 got married there and then. Their relationship grew stronger through the years and (as a fellow musician) phenoomena like the "27Club" obviously fuelled the passion even further. She was forever contemplating the idea of telling ALL the stories concerning 27 - not just the sad ones. So - this show is not just about remembering and honoring those who left us, it is about the peculiar occurence of 27 appearing all around us and her attraction to it. The mysterious journey of the number TWENTY SEVEN. Obviously it is not possible to tell all the stories at once, but this is a start. Andra was born 27 years ago. It's time... |
17.12.11 'Tis the Season to......
Make lists!! Gifts, what to eat, what to pack, what appliences to unplug, which relative to avoid... Do not ask a significant other or the person sitting next to you at the doctor's waiting room (you came to pick up your allergy/malaria tablets that was on one of your lists) to help you find a pen and blank piece of paper. They will immediately hijack your great idea and start making their own lists – still leaving you pen- and paperless. But that's another story...
Having worked in a coffeeshop in one of the most popular holiday destinations during the festive season, I would really like it if everybody would put this easy task on their list:
"Be nice to everyone who has to work during the holiday season"
The fuel-attendant with his silly Christmas hat that he's been forced to wear since October; the cashier who by now has heard "The Little Drummer Boy" about 4 million times already; the waitress who has to endure the same lame jokes inflicted upon her about her unfortunate relevant name, "Mary". (..."you must be very relieved that it is almost your due date, Mary?"... "Is your last name "Christmas"?..."); The flight attendant who got stuck with the festive season shifts, because he is the only one who doesn't have family to go to; basically everybody you meet behind a counter or who's wearing a nametag, uniform, overalls, reflective jacket or an apron.
If you find yourself complaining to them about the lack of parking, being sunburnt, having a headache from sleeping all day, sand in your underpants... any of those little inconveniences that seem HUGE while you are on holiday – take a breath and notice the person that you are complaining to. He/she is WORKING!! You are on holiday.
Be kind.
Perhaps rather tell them about the great things you've experienced in their town. Tell them how pretty they look! - Unless it's a big hairy leathery guy with tattoos and piercings... although, I am sure big hairy leathery men also like to feel pretty! Tell him he looks pretty and RUN, I mean, RELAX a little. Eat a lot! Build a sandcastle - if you're at the beach. Enjoy every moment! Just be nice, but most importantly: Dont hijack other people's list-making idea and leave them pen- and paperless!

19.09.2011 – Just Music!
It’s been a while since Andra’s last gig in Pretoria, but she’s back at the legendary Café Barcelona with Eben Groenewald on Friday 23 Sept! 26.07.2011 – Highlights and Change
Andra has had an exciting couple of months so far this year! Some highlights include performing with one of SA’s most beloved singers, Mathys Roets, at Menlyn’s Barnyard Theatre; supporting Van Coke Kartel at Klein Libertas Theatre in Stellenbosch; doing her very first vocal session by singing Nancy Sinatra’s “these boots are made for walkin’” for the latest Milo commercial in South Africe; making music with some favourite musicians Brenda Burnit, Barry Steenkamp and Eben Groenewald at the famous Innibos Festival in Nelspruit; and having her very first international (usa) radio interview with Vinny Cohan on WDFH FM 90.3 www.wdfh.org!!
We are also very thankful and proud to announce that Vitamin Water will be hydrating Andra and the band from now on! This is extremely helpful and we all thank Monica Treki for this amazing gift!!
Andra would also like to wish Sam Alberts well on her new journey and future in George - and wherever adventure might take het next. Sam has successfully managed Andra for 3 years, and this has been no easy task without record company support. Thank you for everything, Sam! :-)

14.06.11 – FESTIVAL MONTH

06.01.11 – NEW YEARS WISHES FROM ANDRA
I am totally besotted with the sound of rhythmic handclaps. Born and raised in Namibia, I am constantly exposed to handclaps being used as a tool to demonstrate happiness and excitement, to express deep deep sorrow and heartbreak and to play out all possible emotions inbetween! The sound of shuffling-thumping feet....... the stop-start of the claps – it is mesmerizing and SUCH an inspiration if you are in love with Sounds.
In our familiar spot on new year’s eve: the Namib Desert on the one side, the Atlantic Ocean on the other, I listened to the little explosive sounds of the wood in the fire and the seagulls screaching and begging for scraps. The crashing waves roll and tumble the sea-pebbles into a rumbling sound that resonates in my mind as old famliar handclaps!
At that moment I realized that Sounds are more addictive than Coffee. I cannot get enough of it, cannot live without it – must explore more of it! For me, this year is going to be The Year of the Celebration of Sounds!
My wish for everybody is – find your passion and celebrate it fully this year!! 2011 will be a GREAT year for us all!

15.11.10 – INTERNATIONAL ORDERS CLOSING ON 05 DEC 2010
Due to the festive season mayhem and the fact that we will not be able to guarantee that international orders placed after 05 Dec reach you within 7 to 10 days, international shipment will close on 05 December and commence again only on 05 January 2011 (orders can be placed during this time but shipment will only happen in the new year). We would advise that all Christmas orders be placed before then to avoid disappointment. This decision was made after consulting with the South African Postal Service.
